a5c7b9f00b Returning from five years of fighting in the crusades, Robin of Locksley and his manservant Much discover their beloved home under the rule of the dastardly Sheriff of Nottingham. To fight the tyranny, Robin becomes the leader of a band of outlaws with Will Scarlett, Allan A Dale, Royston White, Little John, and Djaq. Later episodes find the addition of friends and foes suchPrince John, warrior monk Tuck, village girl Kate, Guy's sister Isabella, and mysterious Archer. Robin of Loxsley returns from the holy land, to find Nottingham in pieces under the rule of the new Sheriff. He leads a band of outlaws to fight the Sherrif and help the people of Nottingham, all whilst falling in love again with his ex-finance Marian. Frankly, in my highly biased opinion, this is one of the greatest television series to escape onto screen. I won't even bother to explain why to any great length. Watch it. If you don't like it, fair enough. Robin Hood is like Doctor Who in that respect. Its fans absolutely adore it while skeptics think it's a bit weird.

There are flaws. A few moments come offquite "cheesy." The fighting, while quite solid and aggressive, doesn't set off any fireworks. However, no series has finer acting or is more beautifully shot. Some are on a par but you can't exceed perfection.

It didn't have the legs to go beyond three series but the majority of those episodes were sublime. The best version of Robin Hood by a 12th century country mile. This is perfect Saturday night viewing. Don't expect complicated plots and subtext. It is pure entertainment. Goodies wear white (or green in this case) and the baddies wear black. It issimplethat. The costumes are a bit modern the dialogue also is more in the present day.

But the best bit that makes it worth watching is Kieth Allens Sheriff of Nottingham. He is pure am dram evil. An amoral creature who would turn over his own mother. the supporting cast are great and Jonas Armstrong puts in a great cocky performance for an unknown actor.

The back ground characters are a bit week but this is probably more due to the fact there grasp of English is limitedthe series is filmed in Hungary
